Home Ed Science Club with Michelle for ages 6+

Join us for a fun, inclusive hands-on science club designed for children aged 5 and up, pitched from early years through to KS3 level. Sessions are led by Michelle Adams, an experienced science teacher with 20 years of teaching experience across KS2, KS3, and KS4.

This small-group club (maximum 12 children) focuses on practical science activities with no writing required, making it accessible and engaging for all abilities. Sessions are carefully adapted so every child can take part and enjoy exploring science through doing. 

These are high-energy, sensory-friendly workshops designed especially for curious minds and neurodiverse learners. There is no reading, writing, or sitting still required — just experimenting, and discovering.

Home ed science has evolved. We are now going deeper with science!

Michelle going to be taking a little more time to explore individual science topics in greater depth, giving you more opportunities to investigate, experiment and get stuck into the really interesting stuff.

But don’t worry — these are NOT follow-on sessions! Each session will stand alone, so children can join in whenever they can, even if they have to miss the other sessions in the topic.

First Topic - Acids and Alkalis

You are going to be getting stuck into acids and alkalis, with three hands-on sessions exploring the topic from different angles. Each session is standalone, so children can join any session even if they’ve missed the others.

Wednesday 9th September - The pH Detectives

Can you identify mystery liquids using colour-changing indicators? We’ll investigate acids, alkalis and the pH scale through lots of hands-on testing.

Wednesday 16th September - Acid vs Alkali

Get ready for fizzing, bubbles and chemical reactions! You’ll investigate what happens when acids and alkalis meet and discover the science behind the gas they produce.

Wednesday 23rd September - The Weird World of pH

Where do we find acids and alkalis in everyday life? We’ll explore their role in things like our teeth, stomachs, food and household products.

Second Topic -  The Science of Survival 

Our next topic at Yorkshire Create is all about how plants and animals survive, who eats who, and the wonderfully strange adaptations that help living things thrive.

Wednesday 30th September - Who Eats Who?

Predators, prey, food chains and food webs! You'll build your own food webs, discover what happens when one species disappears.

Wednesday  7th October - Weird, Wonderful and Wild

Why do animals have such strange features? You'll investigate bizarre adaptations including camouflage, unusual feet and specialised beaks — with practical challenges to discover why these adaptations matter.

Wednesday 14th October - Plants are Weird!

Plants can't run away, so how do they survive? You'll investigate cacti, carnivorous plants, seed dispersal and some of the amazing adaptations plants use to survive in challenging environments.
