Home Ed Science Club with Michelle for ages 6+

Join us for a fun, inclusive hands-on science club designed for children aged 5 and up, pitched from early years through to KS3 level. Sessions are led by Michelle Adams, an experienced science teacher with 20 years of teaching experience across KS2, KS3, and KS4.

This small-group club (maximum 12 children) focuses on practical science activities with no writing required, making it accessible and engaging for all abilities. Sessions are carefully adapted so every child can take part and enjoy exploring science through doing. 

These are high-energy, sensory-friendly workshops designed especially for curious minds and neurodiverse learners. There is no reading, writing, or sitting still required — just experimenting, and discovering.

Each session can be enjoyed on its own, although attending all six will help children build a deeper understanding of the topic.

Michelle going to be taking a little more time to explore individual science topics in greater depth, giving you more opportunities to investigate, experiment and get stuck into the really interesting stuff.

Our Next Science Topic: Chemistry. What Is Everything Made Of?

Over the next six sessions, we'll be exploring matter, particles and chemical changes through hands-on experiments and investigations.

We'll start by looking at what matter actually is, before exploring how different materials behave, what happens when they change and how we can separate them.

4th November - What Is Matter?

What do solids, liquids and gases have in common? We'll investigate what matter is and discover that even invisible gases take up space and have mass.

11th November - Solids, Liquids and Gases

We'll explore the properties of solids, liquids and gases, and use simple particle models to help explain why they behave differently.

18th November - Changing States

What happens when something melts, freezes, evaporates or condenses? We'll investigate how heating and cooling affect materials and what happens to their particles.

25th November – Dissolving: Where Did It Go?

When something dissolves, has it disappeared? We'll investigate dissolving and explore what's happening to the particles.

2nd December – Has Something New Been Made?

We'll look at the difference between physical and chemical changes, carrying out experiments to help us recognise when a chemical reaction has taken place.

9th December – Can We Get It Back?

We'll investigate different ways of separating mixtures, including filtering and evaporation, and explore how we can recover substances.

How do our sessions work?

Our science sessions are mixed ability, with plenty of practical activities, discussion and opportunities to investigate.

Children can explore the science at their own level, with additional challenges for those who want to take their understanding further.

There is very little emphasis on writing. Instead, we focus on asking questions, making predictions, experimenting and explaining what we discover.
