Little Readers with Sarah for ages 4-8
A fun, interactive reading group for children aged 4–8, focused on building confidence and a love of reading.
Welcome to our workshop, where imagination meets history, storytelling, and the wider world. In this class, we will step into the shoes of people from different times and places, bringing important moments from history to life through drama, art, storytelling, movement, and creativity. From ancient civilizations to modern-day events, we’ll explore exciting stories, fascinating characters, and big ideas by performing them together.
Along the way, we’ll also dive into other topics like science, culture, and everyday life, using the arts to help us understand and express what we learn. This is a space to build confidence, work as a team, and, most importantly, have fun while discovering the stories that shape our world.
Please see below for information about whom you will be learning about this half term;
7th April - Ada Lovelace
Ada Lovelace lived a long time ago, before computers even existed—but she had an amazing imagination. Ada loved maths and thinking about how machines could solve problems. She even wrote the very first set of instructions for a machine, which is why many people call her the world’s first computer programmer.
Ada showed us that you can use both creativity and logic together, just like in art. She believed that machines could do more than just calculate—they could even help create music and pictures!
24th April - Mary Shelley
Mary Shelley was a writer who loved using her imagination to tell exciting and sometimes spooky stories. A long time ago, she wrote a famous book called Frankenstein, about a scientist who creates a mysterious creature.
Mary Shelley started writing stories when she was young, and she showed the world how powerful ideas and imagination can be. Her stories make us think about science, creativity, and what it means to be human—all while taking us on a thrilling adventure!
1st May - Grace Darling
Grace Darling was a brave young woman who lived by the sea in a lighthouse. One stormy night, she saw a ship in trouble and knew she had to help. Even though the waves were huge and the weather was scary, Grace rowed out in a small boat to rescue people from the wreck.
Her courage and kindness made her famous, and she became a real-life hero. Grace Darling shows us that even ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they help others in need!
8th May - Mae Jemison
Mae Jemison is an astronaut who made history by becoming the first Black woman to travel into space. Mae loved science, learning, and helping people, and she worked very hard to achieve her dreams.
She flew on the Space Shuttle Endeavour, where she explored space and carried out important experiments. Mae also loves dancing and reading, showing that you can enjoy lots of different things while following your passion.
Mae Jemison teaches us that with curiosity, courage, and determination, you can reach for the stars—literally
15th May - Mary Anning
Mary Anning was a curious and adventurous girl who loved exploring the seaside cliffs near her home. While searching the rocks, she discovered amazing fossils—remains of creatures that lived millions of years ago!
Mary found some of the very first dinosaur and sea reptile fossils ever discovered, helping scientists learn more about life on Earth long ago. She showed that asking questions, exploring, and being curious can lead to incredible discoveries.
22nd May - Noor Inayat Khan
Noor Inayat Khan was a brave and kind woman who helped win World War II. Noor worked as a secret radio operator, sending important messages to help keep people safe.
Even when things were dangerous, she showed great courage and never gave up. Noor believed in doing what was right and helping others, and her bravery made her a real hero.
